I've had a hard time finding inexpensive wool so I thought I'd start posting finds..
wool blend $1.95/yd fabric.com - has a touch of metalic in it but doesn't look too garish

Just got my order of summer weight 100% wool. It's a lot scratchier than I thought it would be. Need to wash it and see if it softens. Got it from fabric.com.

It was $9.98 and I had a 20% off coupon. Not the cheapest but way better than the $20+/yard I've seen at Joanns.
I got the olive gree -

Ooh pretty! Please post your results after you try the softening of the scratchiness factor.
Coupon? Where did you get the coupon from?

I think they sent me the coupon in an email but you can google fabric.com coupon code and it brings up some. In fact anytime I order anything online I google for coupon codes - never know what you might find.

Thanks! That is a great idea!!
Funny thing is, that I get their emails... I guess I don't open them often enough to realize that they sometimes send coupons rather than have the regular sale. I will be looking out for them now though (and on the web too)!

ok washed the wool on hot, dried and ironed and its STILL scratchy

( So this will not be going next to the skin. It will prolly end up an over tunic or apron. Love the olive color.

fabricmartfabrics dot com has really good deals in the clearance section for the patient. I have my price limits and $10 is the most I'll pay for an awesome wool. (I just checked and they have 60" gold wool gabardine for 7.99/yd) I have had good luck at Hancock for wool too. Joann's has become the last place I go for fabrics- the prices are higher, and the fiber quality has gone down hill. It makes me sad- they used to be so much more a leader in the industry.

I have to agree with Sirona, Hancock is a good place to look for inexpensive wool (spring and summer is when I have luck in the clearance areas) and I found a beautiful camel colored wool at the website she mentioned. You do have to spend some time looking around though, as in an hour or so...great deals though! In fact I am going to be looking at their website soon, I have a project for the hubby in mind...About the only thing I get at Joann's now is the cotton twill and buttons...and only when I have my coupons in tow!
