Grape stomping

Postby sironaboann on Wed Sep 10, 2008 5:33 pm

After hours of picking Muscadine and Catawba grapes, Keelin and I sterilized our feet and jumped into the bin to stomp away. The skins were then hand pressed and we cooked it up with some peach cider and plenty of sugar. I'll let you know in a year or so.

I had a plain old plastic bin filled with water and B-Brite sterilizer- same stuff you'ld use for the equipment and bottles in brewing. We took turns wiggling our toes in it before stepping into the much larger bin full of grapes. That bin and even the grapes had been sterilized. After culling the fruits, they were dropped in the steri bin and sieved out.
It wasn't as slimy as I thought it would be. It was more like walking in the surf. Just stickier.

So were your feet stained purple? Assuming red wine......

Nope, just sticky.
The purple from the skins takes some time to bleed out. We didn't have enough time to get stained. Though it would be fun explaining how it happened at that wedding next week........
Maybe I'll soak my feet with some more just for fun!

Sister in Philly. We have a running bet/joke/thing about "If I ever get the chance to...........you know I'm going to" things.

AS promised, it's been a year (or so) and I bottled "Everything's Peachy, so Quit your Wineing". It's sweet, light, and very drinkable. The peach cider is is very mellow (not like a juice) and the color is flawless. It was the fav at an informal tasting the other night.
